Fishman Full Circle Upright Bass pickupThe Fishman Full Circle has certainly earned its stripes in the URB world. I was never a big fan of the classic Fishman BP-100 (though it was a breath of fresh air in the early 80's when it first came out), but I really like the Full Circle- it delivers a much more natural sound with a nice mix of body and string. It has the warmth of the Realist but with more string detail, and even offers some tonal flexibility. That's why you'll find one on my carved bass.

The photo, below at right, shows Bob at a Gospel Bluegrass affair in September 2010, where he amplified his pre-war Juzek bass using a Fishman Full Circle pickup and clipped a LR Baggs GigPro preamp to his belt for easy access to volume and tone controls. You can see the Full Circle pickup adjuster in the photo inset with the Meisel COM-90 tuner.

LR Baggs GigPro preamp and Fishman Full Circle Installation is easy-- IF you have an adjustable bridge, since the pickup replaces one adjuster, and a matching standard adjuster replaces the other. The Full Circle is available in THREE different thread sizes (NEW 5/16-18 version released June '09), one of which should fit most non-custom bridges - the most common size, by far, is the 1/4"-20, but please check the information below to ensure that you order the correct size. The pickup side is a fully functioning bridge height adjustment wheel, and Fishman wisely uses a quick disconnect plug connector on the string-mounted jack so you can easily turn the wheel to adjust bridge height without removing the jack. The wheels are made of aluminum, a favorite and common choice for bridge adjuster material.

The pickup's unique design also offers a quick change to the response; a small turn of the wheel lets you achieve an open, resonant response or a drier and more focused amplified tone; this is because of the way the pickup elements can align differently with the bridge relative to their their positioning.

Fishman has produced an excellent installation and operations manual that even includes instructions for installing it into a solid bridge. However, cutting and tapping a bridge for bridge wheel installation is not a piece of cake -- it is an operation that requires precision tools and skills -- so you may wish to consider the adjustable bridge/Full Circle package, which includes our own predrilled adjustable bridge. NOTE: When we package the Full Circle with our bridge, it ALWAYS comes as the SAE (not metric) version, because all of the bridges we sell are pre-tapped for SAE threads. Also note that our pre-tapped bridges have the threads in the bridge, not the feet, so you will install the pickup "threads-up" - if you prefer a "threads-down" orientation, you'll need to cut and tap your own bridge.

The Full Circle pickup includes two adjusters to replace your current ones or for installation into your current bridge; one contains the pickup electronics, the second is a matching, regular adjuster. If you already have an adjustable bridge, it can replace your current adjusters.

The Full Circle is available in three sizes: the most common size for UNC 1/4-20 thread height adjustment wheels, and the alternate Metric 6x1mm format and newly available UNC 5/16-18 format. If you're not sure which one you need, click here for more information. (Where you live -- Europe, USA, etc. -- has no bearing on which size you'll need, so please check your current thread size to ensure that you get the right one!) If you order the Package Deal (in drop-down menu, above) you will get one of our pre-tapped, quality adjustable bridges -- with the original aluminum adjusters removed, since you don't need them -- and the correct size Full Circle Pickup to install into it.

A preamp is recommended, but not required. Fishman's Platinum Pro-EQ is an excellent choice, but there are lots of other options from several manufacturers, all of which are compatible and will complement this pickup well.

David Gage Realist Pickup for Double Bass (Original and Wood Version)

This item is made in USA!The David Gage Realist pickup is a very popular choice, used by a number of top bassists for many years. It particularly excels on basses with resonant carved tops. It's well-known for its full, woody tone; it doesn't have a lot of high end response, due to it being against the bass top. Depending on your needs, this may be a very good thing. It's available in the newer "Woodtone" as well as the original "Copperhead" versions. INCLUDES FREE BONUS - Gollihur Jack Mount Kit...

Some of our customers have told us what they think about this product.
Check out what they had to say!

Just wanted to say THANKS! After reading around your website and the guys at talkbass there's not really anyone else I wanted to buy a pickup from. My BP-100 just wasn't cutting it anymore (not that it ever really did!). I was thinking of getting a Realist but after reading on the two websites I was worried about getting the volume up enough. I got the Full Circle from you last week. Installation was a breeze (after reading tips on your website, of course) and my bass sounds great! I cant' wait to get up enough dough to buy something else from you!
Just want you to know that I love the Coda. In combination with my new Fishman Full Circle I get a really true sound. And the light weight is nice on my bad back. So if you need any testimonials, here is one happy bassist.

I love my new Fishman Full Circle pickup and Platinum Bass EQ. Wonderful tone. The Depth Control on the EQ is perfect for dialing in the room.

Bob, Just wanted to say thanks for the speedy delivery of my new Fishman Full Circle Pickup. I shaped the bridge this weekend as per your instructions and I am extremely pleased with the results (especially since I am not a luthier and have only been playing upright for a couple of months)! Your instructions were invaluable and after a trip to Home Depot for a few additional tools (new tools are always good) I was able to shape and fit the bridge like a pro. And the pickup.......All I can say is WOW... Thanks so much for great service and a great product.

Mark, the Full Circle arrived this morning about 9:30 my time, I took it and my Upton to my luthier and we had it installed by around 11:30, I brought it home, plugged in and....to say I'm pleased is an understatement. The FC sounds so much better than the ********** **** on my bass - it is like night and day. It sounded great through my Phil Jones Flightcase, and sounded excellent through my AI Focus I, Series III and EA M-line Wizzy.

Thanks so much for your excellent service and the fast shipping.

Hi Mark,

I received the order I placed with Gollihur Music yesterday. Thank you. I was surprised to receive it so promptly. I wanted to give you an update on my problem.

I installed the Jargar Medium strings on my plywood "work" bass this morning. I was pleasantly surprised at the initial tone, as I expected the strings to be a little brighter since they are steel core. However, they sound warm and wonderful. The E string seemed to have a little weaker sound than the other three, but not enough to cause concern. I "toyed" with the "Full Circle" adjustment and I believe that on this particular bass the best sound seems to be when the pick-up is turned at about a 45 degree to the bridge foot. Thank you for that tip.

I was extremely pleased with the K&K dual pre amp. The magnetic pick-up and the full circle both sound great. I did a little "tweaking" as suggested by the manufacturer and I now feel that I have finally achieved a good amplified sound. Once the amp is set for the best sound, the Jargar strings sound equally good with the bow or pizz. with the harshness gone, which was present before.

Thank you again for your suggestions. I am 64 years old and have been playing double bass and electric bass since 1964. I have a room full of equipment from old vintage stuff to some fairly new amps and basses. However, I have tried just about every combination of amp and amp settings you could think of with less than satisfactory results. I could never quite find the sweet spot setting. I also own a 4/4 Pollmann double bass that I have set up for orchestra and community theater work. This bass also has a "full circle" installed as well, but usually is played more with the bow, so once it is EQed, I have had little issues with it. It is so resonate, however, that is unsuited for amplified work in high volume settings.

To make a long story short, I have been dealing with amplifying the double bass for a long time and now, finally I am able to get some of the problems worked out. I am a bit of a purist, and really do not want to go to an EUB personally. I know that and EUB is a good compromise, however.

I will be working with the big swing band tomorrow, and I am really looking forward to having the bass blend with the band while still cutting through with a nice warm tone.

Thanks again!

Mark and Bob,

Just wanted to email you, to let you know what I think about your products and service...

Got the eurosonic strings that my gf bought me, and at first I was not sold...I like the tension of the RB strings better, but the tone seemed good...

Called Mark the day after thanksgiving and ordered a Fishman Full Circle. I have to let you know that this pickup changed my life. It sounds amazing! I had a bassmax that I bought from you but never really worked with my bass (although now it is on my 1/2 ccb and it sounds really good)...I purchased a used *** and it sounded horrible. I was worried that the synthetic Eurosonics would produce too much squeak and buzz for a piezo. My amplified bass output to this point has been anemic and muffled.

Now, with the FC, my bass sounds amazing! The eurosonics sound amazing too! I love these strings...This pickup has made a world of difference, and I wanted to say thank you!
