Upright Bass Bridges
A quality, well-fit bridge is important for tone and playability.
We stock bridges in many sizes, both fixed and adjustable, depending on your need and preference.
There's no such thing as a truly "pre-fit" bridge (we have one where most of the grunt work is done, but you'll still need to do the final bit to truly fit to your unique instrument). You will find all replacement bridges to be taller than your current bridge. New bridges are "blanks" that need to be cut, trimmed, and shaped to fit your bass -- and we provide the instructions to do it yourself, if you're so inclined. You can also have a local luthier install it for you.
Will having the convenience of adjusters mean you sacrifice tone? There is a link to a site (on our Double Bass Links Page) with a scientific study of the affects of adjusters of various materials (spoiler alert - it's detectable with sophisticated equipment, but pretty insignificant to the ears of most players). I think you'll find that most bassists have chosen adjustable bridges for their gigging instruments; all of us at Gollihur Music use (our own!) adjustable bridges on our own basses -- and if we felt it was a sacrifice of tone to do so, they wouldn't be on there.
