Resources for Upright Bassists
from Your Friends at Gollihur Music

The Gollihur Music website that you're viewing now originally started with a humble collection of helpful pages that Bob posted on his own personal web server. Originally a growing collection of useful, upright bass specific links that were sorted and verified, it quickly became a real "go-to" website when you were looking for a jumping point to find lots of "bassic" information.

As we grew into a bass-specialty store, we've continued to strongly keep that focus on helping; if you're a bassist -- or the parent of one -- we're here to help, even if that means that we aren't going to sell you anything (today.) And we count on the fact that, when it comes time to make a purchase, many people remember who was there to provide them with that assistance.

And once you do buy something, the help doesn't stop - with a large number of the products we ship out, we include extra tips, installation hints, quick-start guides, templates, instructions, or bonus items so that you get the most out of your purchase right away. And we're always here to help.

Here's a short directory of the resources we offer here at the Gollihur Music website. Please feel free to browse through our many pages of FAQ's, tips, and more - and if you have questions, give us a call or send us an email - we'll answer.

Our Frequently Asked Questions pages cover such useful topics as "How do I transport my bass?" and "What are the average dimensions of a 3/4 size bass or a 1/2 size bass?" How do you select a particular grade of rosin? Learn about Ohms and Impedance, and why they're important. Or you can find some helpful tips on how to put new strings on your double bass. There are dozens of helpful topics, and whether you're new to bass or a seasoned pro, you're likely to find some useful info there.

Do you need some help figuring out which strings to buy? How about how to buy a left-handed bass (and important things to know)? Or maybe you don't know whether you should purchase a French or German-style bow? We're constantly adding new Buyer's Guides to help you become an educated consumer! Returning items to the store is a hassle and an avoidable expense; the key is to buy the right stuff the first time. We'd like to help you with that.

Here they are - the pages that started it all. We've hosted our Upright Bass Links on our website continually for over 20 years. In this massive -- and ever-expanding -- collection, you'll find pages that cover upright bass history, important information about musician's health and avoiding injury, info for homebuilt electric uprights, and even fun pages that cover bass-centric art and jewelry. We also link to bassists' personal pages - so if you have one, send us your link!

If you need to find someone local to do some work on your bass, where do you look? Not all towns have a stringed instrument shop, and even if yours does, some string shops won't work on basses, preferring to stick to much smaller (and more manageable) violins and violas. We've tried to collect the names and contact info for as many bass repair shops and technicians as possible, so you can find some help at least reasonable close by. Is your favorite shop not listed? Let us know!

We recognize that quality teachers are not so easy to find in every nook and cranny of the world. So we decided to help. We've put together this growing list of teachers of upright bass, in the hopes that you will connect with an instructor in your region that can help you (or your child) maximize your learning potential. Want to add yourself? Let us know!

Selling a nice bass or bow? Or maybe you're combing the used market for something that will be "new to you?" We host FREE "For Sale" and "Wanted" ads on our website so that you can reach out to our other site visitors. You just need to sign up for a free Gollihur Music User Profile (so you can later modify or delete your ads) - the ad is free! Check out the current ads, or post one of your own, here!

If you're looking for detailed specifications or operation instructions for the stuff we sell, check our manuals page - we either link to (or host) the manuals for many of the items we have on the site. (Note that manuals are also linked directly from the product page of each individual item that has one.)

Having some trouble with a product we carry? We've collected the warranty terms of many of our manufacturers and posted them in this central location.
