 I'm always on the lookout for new and exciting gear for upright bassists. I've long had Genz-Benz on my radar, and lately they have been getting a lot of buzz for some of their newer products. After checking the Shuttle combos and the new Streamliner heads out, we decided we just had to have them! So I'm proud to say that we are now a Genz-Benz bass amp dealer.
The Shuttle 6.0-12T bass amplifier is a professional bass combo with a tube front-end, loads of EQ, a big 12" speaker with tweeter, and lots of pro features - weighing only 32 lbs. With a 12AX7 tube preamp and active three-band EQ with sweepable mids, this baby is a tone machine. Add its simple-to-use Signal Shape presets, and you have an amp that is easy to dial in, whether using it for upright or your electric bass gigs. Its high impedance input works equally as well with both!
 As a part of the unique Shuttle design the amplifier can be removed from the "saddle" of the combo models to provide ultimate flexibility in this bass system - use it with another Genz-Benz cabinet, or even one from another manufacturer, with ease!
The internal Neodymium loudspeaker in this combo provides an 8 ohm load; the combo provides 375 watts into these speakers - but can generate 600 watts at a 4ohm load when used with an extension cab (see related items for matching 12T cabinet). A bottom mounted tilt-back kickstand is built-in.
Sweet, warm sound from the tube preamp isn't all you get - you'll find gig-friendly features aplenty on the Shuttle amp. A mute switch and dedicated tuner output allow for silent instrument switching and tuning onstage. A powerful 3-band EQ, featuring a sweepable midrange (to dial in just the right frequncy to adjust), provides lots of tone control. Three preset buttons (Low frequency boost, mid scoop, high frequency attack) provide quick access to common tone modifications. An auxilliary input gives you a place to plug in your Mp3 player or other signal, to jam along with. A pro-level DI with ground lift/pre-post/mic-line switches gives you an easy, trouble-free connection to a live PA or recording mixer. An effects loop for your compressor, reverb, or other sonic tools (or toys). An automatic output limiter provides a "soft ceiling" to minimize or eliminate ugly amp overloads. Add a headphone jack for silent practice (no amp load needed) and two Speakon speaker jacks, and you've got just about everything you need.

Specs are one thing, but getting deeper into the preamp on the Shuttle Amp reveals some very smart, gig-friendly features.
The input starts with an automatic active high pass filter to eliminate unwanted rumble and noise. The input gain stage actively provides continuously variable gain with minimal noise. These two features automatically improve sound, reduce noise, and ensure that you get the best signal possible.
A mute switch silences the amplifier (and Direct Output) - but the Tuner Out stays active when the mute is engaged, so you can tune silently. The "Overload" LED lets you know when you're overdriving the preamp - when this LED flashes, you should adjust the Preamp Volume level to prevent ugly distortion.
The active 3 band equalizer features a sweepable parametric midrange frequency control. The low frequency knob controls an 80 Hz shelving curve with a full 15dB of cut or boost. The high frequency knob controls a 4 KHz shelving curve with a full 15dB of cut or boost. The powerful parametric sweepable-mid frequency section features 15 dB of cut or boost at a frequency that you can adjust from 150 Hz to 2 KHz with the accompanying frequency control. This allows you to "dial in" specific frequencies that need attention in the mid-range, most commonly used to provide fullness (on the low range) and "punch" through a dense mix of instruments (middle and higher settings).
Three Signal Shape presets provide quick access to useful sonic coloring. The L.F. BOOST adds - well, a boost in the low frequencies. If you need a bit more bottom, this is the button for you. The MID SCOOP
switch generates a midrange cut around 600 Hz; this is better for electric bass gigs, but can provide useful tones for upright players as well. The H.F ATTACK adds a high frequency boost for brightness and clarity.
The amplifier also contains an internal power amplifier "Soft Clip" Output Limiter. This Limiter simulates the sound that a tube power amp makes when you reach its peak power levels. Normally, solid state or digital amps "hit a wall" in an ugly way when you max out. This limiter is a special analog circuit to provide a more "musical" sounding ceiling when you start to play "at 11."
An XLR balanced direct output provides easy connection to a PA system or directly into a recording studio console. The Direct Out signal is switchable between mic and line level, pre and post EQ; and the audio signal ground can be lifted to eliminate ground loop hum. An effects loop (SEND and RECEIVE jacks) is provided on the rear panel for connecting effects units like compressors, reverbs, etc. It can also be used as a Preamp Out / Power Amp In connection for custom multi-amp setups.
A 1/4" line level auxilliary input sums directly to the main output; it's ideal for practicing with recorded tracks from a CD player, iPod, or MP3 player. And the headphone jack is perfect for silent practice. You can disconnect the speaker, as a speaker load is not required to operate the amp.
