NOTE: Many more detailed photos are at the bottom of the page!

We've carried the "Professional Bass Bag" for several years now with lots of success; it's a heavier-duty bag (than our popular Gollihur Bass Bag) with backpack straps, rolling wheels, and thicker protective padding. Now we have the next generation of this top-seller, with some new features and really useful upgrades - and featuring a slick new look!

The bag now has contrasting color panels; the steel-gray colored bag has an inset in burgundy (see photo at left) and the black bag has the same inset in gray (see photo at right). Both bags have a classy, stylish (and dare I say it, "money") look that stands out from the "plain black bag" crowd but isn't over the top at all.

Over ONE INCH of Padding!

Protection.
Like before, the new bag has dense, lined padding that is approximately 1¼" thick, which provides quite a bit more cushion and protection than other, lighter-weight bags. Internally, the padding extends over the zippers to protect your instrument's finish from being scratched by the heavy-duty YKK zippers.

How solid is the padding? In both of the full bag photos you see at the top of this page, the bag is standing up against the wall with no bass inside it. This is no floppy bag!

Heavy-Duty Handles

Strength.
The NINE carrying and "wrangling" handles have some serious stitching, and use reinforced tabs for rugged reliability -- and the stitching goes all the way through the case, padding and all. See closeups in the photo array, below. Many of the handles have a soft vinyl wrap for comfort, and the handles are in sensible, useful locations for carrying the bag - as well as maneuvering it through a doorway or into your car.

Let's Roll!
Another useful feature: wheels!

The case has a pair of durable 1.5 inch luggage-style wheels at the bottom of the back. They're mounted to a sturdy but lightweight internal plate to provide structure. NEW: The internal plate is smaller than the one on the Series I bag, making the bag a good bit easier to manage when not on the bass. Also note the cinch-straps at the bottom of the case; these allow you to tighten the bag to provide a more secure fit for your instrument. There is also a cinch-strap around the base of the neck to keep the neck from swimming around inside the case.

This deluxe case also has several skid-patches at points where the bag might contact the ground; these provide additional impact protection to your bass, as well as protect the fabric of the case from premature wear. NEW: The entire bottom section of the case is wrapped in a tear-resistant vinyl, with additional doubled-up areas where contact with the ground is most likely, to prevent wearing holes in the case fabric.

A Place for Your Stuff.
Pockets? This case has plenty! On the front, an extra-large pleated bow pocket (with a plastic reinforcement panel) has room for many hard and soft bow cases (unfortunately ours is a little too big) and there's also an expandable accessory pocket for rosin, tuner, pickup and preamp, or other small "bassic" items. On the back, the large pair of flat pockets are great for music, lesson material, and more. And the back pockets have protective flaps over the zippers to protect your back when carrying the bass...

Backpack Straps.
Oh, did I forget to mention? This bag has BACKPACK STRAPS, a feature that I have often been asked about! They're adjustable and well-padded. NEW: The backpack straps are now fully removable if you don't care to use them. And like the handles, they're reinforced and heavily stitched, using large gauge steel rings that have been welded closed (so they won't separate). There is also a removable strap included, for those who prefer to use the "one shoulder" method of carrying their bass. Heavy D-rings on each shoulder provide confident use of this shoulder strap.

Keep in mind that with all this extra protection does come extra weight. A representative bag, perched on a shipping scale as best I could manage, came up at around 14 pounds. If this seems a bit much, perhaps a lighter-weight bag (like our Gollihur Bag) might be a better solution for you.

Will it fit your bass??? Since all basses differ, the only way to know is to measure. Please view the image below for case dimensions, and compare the numbers to the dimensions of your instrument. (For reference, the 3/4 sized bag easily fits on Bob's 3/4 sized Kay Bass, and Kay and Engelhardt basses are pretty consistent in size.)

Professional Bass Case Features:
(Note: "" indicates a feature new to the Series II Bag!)
  • 1¼ inches of firm, lined padding to protect your bass - extends over zippers to protect your instrument's finish
  • Nine heavily stitched, reinforced handles for easy carrying and loading
  • Handle stitches go all the way through the entire bag, including padding, to prevent tearing/separation
  • Handles use extra-wide nylon webbing and have padded handles for comfort
  • Large sized, smooth luggage-grade YKK-brand zippers on both sides; and the main zipper goes completely around the scroll to allow the case to open completely
  • All pockets also feature heavy-duty quality YKK zippers
  • Large padded bridge protector
  • Padded, adjustable backpack straps INCLUDED ( removable)
  • Backpack straps attach to large-gauge welded D-rings -- on heavy reinforcement strips that extend across entire back panel
  • Luggage-style wheels for easy maneuvering
  • Large pleated bow pocket with reinforcement panel on the front, approx. 3.25 x 5 inches
  • Expandable accessory pocket
  • Two flat oversized zippered compartments on the back
  • Lots of rubber bumpers/skid patches on sides and bottom
  • Bottom portion of case has large anti-tear panels for long life
  • Shoulder Strap included
  • Heavy-gauge, welded D-rings on shoulders
  • Double-stitched seams
  • Bottom center of case has reinforced cutout for endpin
  • Rich lining with finished seams
  • Durable heavy duty cordura-type outer shell, not that light nylon fabric
  • Cinch straps at bottom and around base of neck provide secure, confident fit
  • Reflective patches for nighttime visibility in the city or parking lot

Here is what some of our customers think about this product:
Hi Mark !
the case arrived yesterday and it is beautiful...i am very happy with all my purchases at Gollihur music. I now can take my 1930's czech bass to Boston this weekend to play a wedding band showcase with confidence!

thanks again for another great experience!

Hello Bob. I just received my father's day present, one of your deluxe bass bags. Man, I love this thing! I have been using the same old bag for nearly 20 years, just because it was easy to get off and on the bass. Most of the newer bags I've seen need a squad to use. Yours is great. My wife hit a homerun with this one! Thanks for a great bag.
