We've often had requests for a lighter duty bag, principally for players who want to keep the dust off their basses, and perhaps are better at avoiding door jams than I, and others that go for padded cases. The lined cover is exactly that — a Cordura cover that has a lightweight, smooth lining on the inside, to avoid rubbing and marking the bass during transit and storage.
The bag is easy to put on (and take off) the bass, thanks to its long zipper. This bag has a single, heavy duty zipper which goes around both sides of the bag -- one end starts within a few inches of the top, and the other end opens to the middle of the lower bout of the bass. It has two pulls, one from each end, so you can leave an opening for the endpin (or a bass wheel, if you have one). As you see from the photo array below, this bag opens wide, ready to swallow your bass without the aggravation other cases have caused me in the past.
Features:
- RIVETED handles for easy maneuvering, carrying and transporting - including a "suitcase" style handle on the side.
- Large-sized, self-healing zipper on main opening and all pockets. Smooth, luggage grade zippers provide long and trouble-free service.
- Dual zipper pulls allows plenty of room for your endpin to protrude (and) support the instrument in transit, and it is accessible if you use a bass wheel.
- Room for "Extras": Accessory/strings/sheet music compartment on the back, with a small accessory pocket on the front.
- Bow pocket on the front, large enough to accommodate many bow cases.
- Backpack Straps for easy transport. Straps are easily removable, as well as lightly padded.
- Shoulder Strap Included: The included adjustable strap with shoulder pad attaches to a pair of Metal D-rings (one on each side, near the top of the C-bout) to help secure/carry the instrument. The D-Rings are riveted to the bag like the other handles are. Note: One should ALWAYS keep an arm wrapped around the bass in case your strap slips off your shoulder or a component fails.
- Soft 3mm thick lining with finished seams, offers more protection (and smoother contact with the instrument) than a simple canvas bag does -- no rough edges to rub your bass the wrong way.
- Durable Genuine Cordura outer shell, not that lightweight nylon fabric - and it's a distinctive royal blue color, rather than the far more common black or brown. (Note that some computer monitors may make the bag's color seem lighter or brighter than it will appear in person - it's actually quite tasteful.)
- Name Tag/Business Card Holder, to identify your bass.
You may ask, "Why is this bag not as cheap as other lightweight bags?"
And I'll answer, "Exactly! It is not a cheap bag." This is really, really well made, with an array of quality features. And it will not begin to fall apart at its first use.
But will it fit your bass??? If you get the right size, probably! But basses vary widely - there are no "standards" which dictate what dimensions a ¼ or ½ size bass should be (or even those of a ¾ or 4/4 bass!) So, what we're saying is, MEASURE to be sure. We've provided INTERIOR measurements, below, to compare to your instrument before you buy. PLEASE measure and compare your bass to these figures; we are not responsible for fitment issues if you just assume since yours is a ¼ or ½ size bass it will fit.
Approximate Interior Measurements in inches (in centimeters)
Fitment Note: the manufacturer indicates that the ¼ sized bag DOES fit the Engelhardt Maestro Junior M3 bass (which is a 1/4 sized bass with slightly different dimensions than some other 1/4 size instruments).
If you purchase this bag for a commonly available bass, please contact us to let us know that it fits your bass and we will list your bass model for the benefit of our other customers.
