Brand your Kay bass with this reissue tailpiece emblem! This polished stainless steel reproduction matches the originals perfectly and is easily installed. You don't even have to remove the tailpiece if you don't want to (and you are careful).
Kay used a variety of logotypes on their tailpieces over time, but the metal logo outshined them all. When I got my Kay in 1966 it didn't even have a tailpiece, and I later paid big bucks on eBay to buy an original one with the Kay emblem. (According to sources online, Kay used the metal emblems on tailpiece from 1952-69. Prior to that, Kay used logo decals of various design on the tailpiece.) Now you can add the Kay logo to your existing tailpiece to let the world know that you play Kay.
The emblem is made of stout .055 inch T316 polished stainless steel and is nearly two inches long. There are two metal posts on the back for mounting it; you just drill two tiny holes in the tailpiece, insert the emblem, and gently shape it to match the curvature of your tailpiece. Then you simply bend the posts on the back to secure it in place.
TAILPIECE NOT INCLUDED, the photo shows an example of the reissue emblem installed on a typical bass tailpiece.
One of our customers sent us these photos (Sept 2010) of his Kay Electric Bass; he modified the logo so he could install it on his headstock!
"I have a old Kay Bass Guitar that I purchased in a Dept Store in 1963. It has a Kay emblem on the pick-guard but nothing on the Headstock and I always thought it should have one. When I saw the emblem for the tailpiece on-line (and that it was small) I figured I'd experiment with it on the Headstock. I was able to drill shallow pin-holes into the headstock, shorten the pins on the emblem, and add it to the Headstock. It actually looks great!"
Just thought we'd showcase our customers' creativity! |
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED! We've written up detailed instructions to help you install the badge on your bass' tailpiece. In addition to helpful photos, we include a cut-out template so you can drill two holes and mount the badge in the same location that Kay did. You'll need a drill to create the holes for the shafts and a pair of long-nosed pliers to aid in making slight bends so it matches the contour of your bass tailpiece and bend the shafts so it stays in place.
