The optional NS Design Double Bass Neck Heel is ideal for bassists who would like to have their NS Bass more closely resemble its acoustic counterpart, feel-wise. As you probably know, most upright basses have what is described as a "D" or "Eb" neck -- meaning that when your hand is in the neck pocket, it is in either the D or Eb position. This add-on heel thereby emulates the "landmark" that is created by your URB's neck, providing a familiar reference point for switching to "thumb position" -- or making quick transitions up the neck for a solo or melody line.

Positioning Tip:
The location of the heel varies depending on whether you want a D or Eb neck position. Its location should be based on what you find on a standard 3/4 size instrument; on most basses, you encounter the neck joint when either a D or Eb is opposite your thumb, under your second finger. If I were positioning it I would familiarize myself with my hand position on my personal Acoustic Upright Bass, and then imitate its neck location on the NSD Bass. I also suggest that you test place the block (using masking tape or some other light adhesive), moving it slightly until it feels "right." Then make a mark, expose the adhesive and put it permanently in place.

The heel is supplied with 3M double-sided permanent foam adhesive so you can locate it at your favorite spot.

Note that this custom heel is designed to fit the profile of the NS Design CR model basses; it is not suited for the WAV4, NXT, EU, or OmniBass. (Trust us, people have tried to fit it to their WAV4 basses, only to be disappointed.)
