"Rockabilly/Country Slap" Separate Components for the Bass Master Pro RB PLUS a la carte options
Back in 1998 I developed a new pickup system with Dieter Kaudel of K&K Sound. Now known as the Bass Master Rockabilly Plus system, this custom creation combines the strong, established Bass Max wing pickup with a unique fingerboard transducer, letting you EQ them separately and mix their output using a tiny dual-channel preamp.
For the ultimate "everything's included" Rockabilly Pickup set, check out the Bass Master Rockabilly Plus System (see related products, below); you get the full system there, including two separate pickup units, a two-channel preamplifier with separate volume, EQ and gain controls, and a special 3-conductor cable. That's what most of our customers are looking for - a full-featured, integrated package.
And then there are the tinkerers...
If you already have a bass pickup that you prefer, each piece is also available separately for your convenience. The individual components are listed here that can help you build your own custom system.
| Component |
What it is |
Rockabilly Fingerboard Transducer |
Your fingerboard slap is distinctly delivered by a purpose-built transducer, designed to be taped to the back side of your fingerboard near the top neck joint. It gets all the "slap" and "thunk" inherent in the slap technique and rockabilly style. It does not carry much of the instrument's note or tone; it's sort of the seasoning on top of the main pickup (such as the Bass Max, below).
Includes a string-mount jack, using a mono 1/4" (guitar) cable to connect to a preamplifier or amplifier. It is available on its own page within our web site, see it listed in the Related Products shown at the bottom of the page. |
Bass Max Upright Bass Pickup |
The Bass Max wing transducer is the "meat" of your bass sound, for a powerful and distinct bass voice, with plenty of mids to cut through the mix. Our best selling pickup, it's the one that is used in the transducer set that comes with the Rockabilly System.
Includes a string-mount jack, using a mono 1/4" (guitar) cable to connect to a preamplifier or amplifier. It is available on its own page within our web site, see it listed in the Related Products shown at the bottom of the page. |
Bass Master Rockabilly transducer network
|
This is the pickup set sold with the complete Bass Master Rockabilly System; if you already have the two channel preamp and stereo cable, this is the two pickups w/jack needed to complete the system. This transducer network is the two pickups above - the Bass Max and Rockabilly Slap Pickup - wired together to a three-conductor (TRS, stereo) string-mount jack. A stereo cable is necessary to maintain pickup separation to the two channel preamp you use; a cable splitter (available elsewhere) can split out the signals to two separate preamp channel inputs or amps if necessary. |
Dual-Channel Blending Preamplifers
|
The Rockabilly Two Channel Preamplifier is essentially the Dual Channel Pro ST Preamplifier with a rockabilly-specific label; it's a 2-channel preamp which has a single TRS/stereo input and dual output options. You can choose to output a mixed signal - or, alternatively, send each pickup to a different output. This has a single stereo input jack, so if you're using two separate pickups, you'll need to use the standard Dual Channel Pro Preamplifier, which has separate ¼" input jacks for each pickup. |
6 foot TRS (stereo) ¼" to ¼" cable |
The original-equipment three-conductor cable that is included with the K&K Pickup systems. We also carry additional lengths of TRS cables, with right-angle jacks - visit our cables page for details. |
Bass Master Rockabilly UPGRADE Kit
|
Do you already have a Bass Max or other popular upright bass pickup, but want to add some slap sounds to your mix? The UPGRADE kit offers everything you need to add blending Rockabilly functionality to your current pickup, in one convenient, easy-to-order package:
- Rockabilly Fingerboard Transducer
- Dual-channel Pro Preamplifier (separate inputs, blended output)
- Preamp Mounting Kit with TWO right angle short cables
(Notes: depending on which pickup you currently use, a longer-length cable might be needed to connect to the preamplifier. Also, be aware that the preamp for this kit does not offer the ability to split the outputs to separate amplifiers like the full Bass Master Rockabilly set does; since it has two inputs, it only has one output jack.) |

Here is what some of our customers think about this product:
|
I recently bought a Double Bass pick up from you guys. I was a little leery at first and was hoping the sound was going to be good for the price I paid... All I can say is ....WoW... The sound freaking blew me away, It was probably one of the best investments I have made this year. I'm hooked, the pickups are top notch. Thank you -
—Bill L.

Just two words: the first is "stunning", the second "thanks"!
The pickup arrived today, and I must say that your rockabilly double piezo and preamp really rock, it made my instrument completely renewed!! Slapping is really a pleasure again!
Really worth every cent I payed and more, I won't stop reccomending this K&K and your (already well known here) Gollihur shop!

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I got my K&K RAB and Solstice today! They sound great together... strong fundamentals with nice transparent clicks. I put the clicky about an inch from the hollowed out part of the fingerboard (about 2 inches from where I slap) and its "THAT" sound! Love it! love it! In love with it!
