"Rockabilly/Country Slap" Separate Components for the Bass Master Pro RB PLUS a la carte options
Back in 1998 I developed a new pickup system with Dieter Kaudel of K&K Sound. Now known as the Bass Master Rockabilly Plus system, this custom creation combines the strong, established Bass Max wing pickup with a unique fingerboard transducer, letting you EQ them separately and mix their output using a tiny dual-channel preamp.
For the ultimate "everything's included" Rockabilly Pickup set, check out the Bass Master Rockabilly Plus System (see related products, below); you get the full system there, including two separate pickup units, a two-channel preamplifier with separate volume, EQ and gain controls, and a special 3-conductor cable. That's what most of our customers are looking for - a full-featured, integrated package.
And then there are the tinkerers...
If you already have a bass pickup that you prefer, each piece is also available separately for your convenience. The individual components are listed here that can help you build your own custom system.

What it is |
Rockabilly Fingerboard Transducer |
Your fingerboard slap is distinctly delivered by a purpose-built transducer, designed to be taped to the back side of your fingerboard near the top neck joint. It gets all the "slap" and "thunk" inherent in the slap technique and rockabilly style. It does not carry much of the instrument's note or tone; it's sort of the seasoning on top of the main pickup (such as the Bass Max, below).
Includes a string-mount jack, using a mono 1/4" (guitar) cable to connect to a preamplifier or amplifier. It is available on its own page within our web site, see it listed in the Related Products shown at the bottom of the page. |
Bass Max Upright Bass Pickup |
The Bass Max wing transducer is the "meat" of your bass sound, for a powerful and distinct bass voice, with plenty of mids to cut through the mix. Our best selling pickup, it's the one that is used in the transducer set that comes with the Rockabilly System.

Bass Master Rockabilly transducer network
|
The pickup set as sold with the Rockabilly System; it incorporates the two pickups above - the Bass Max and Rockabilly Slap Pickup - into a combined set, wired to a three-conductor (TRS, stereo) string-mount jack. A stereo cable is required in order to maintain pickup separation to the preamp used; a cable splitter (available elsewhere) can split out the signals to two separate preamp channel inputs or amps. |
Dual-Channel Blending Preamplifers
|
The Rockabilly Two Channel Preamplifier is essentially the Dual Channel Pro ST Preamplifier with a rockabilly-specific label; it's a 2-channel preamp which has a single TRS/stereo input and dual output options. You can choose to output a mixed signal - or, alternatively, send each pickup to a different output. This has a single stereo input jack, so if you're using two separate pickups, you'll need to use the standard Dual Channel Pro Preamplifier, which has separate ¼" jacks for each pickup. |
6 foot TRS (stereo) ¼" to ¼" cable |
The original-equipment three-conductor cable that is included with the K&K Pickup systems. We also carry additional lengths of TRS cables, with right-angle jacks - visit our cables page for details. |
