Upright Bass ENDPIN for Kay, Engelhardt, etc.
New EXTRA LONG Version!
We now have started carrying an extra-long version of the Kay/Engelhardt endpin; supplied by Engelhardt-Link, just like the original pin, it is made to the same design, notches and tolerances as the standard length pin, but adds 6 inches of length. Total usable endpin length with the XL version is 16 inches from the bottom of the bass.
BUT: LONGER IS NOT NECESSARILY BETTER! If you are particularly tall, and will actually USE the extended length of the longer pin, then it's a great way to add height to your bass. However, if you won't ever use the extended length, do yourself a favor and get the shorter one. Why? Excess length of the endpin inside the bass can have a tendency to oscillate - and thereby vibrate. Ugly vibrations have no place in beautiful music!

This endpin is the type being used for current Engelhardt upright basses and will fit Kay basses as well. If your double bass endpin is rusted, or if the pin is lost, this will be a perfect "OEM" replacement. Two are shown in the photo (one disassembled and the other complete, for your examination). The notes and measurements are provided in the picture for your information. If you are installing this into a non-Kay or Engelhardt bass (or a custom project) the hole to fit must be a 3/4" round, straight hole.
Dimensions of standard length pin:
- Diameter: 1/2"
- Total Length: 11.5" point to tip (extendable length is 10")
- Notches are approx 3/8 wide and are spaced 1.5" apart, center to center
Dimensions of XL length pin:
- Diameter: 1/2"
- Total Length: 17.5" point to tip (extendable length is 16")
- Notches are approx 3/8 wide and are spaced 1.5" apart, center to center
