This replacement nut blank is made of quality ebony. It may be rough-profiled and shaped or just a plain rectangular blank depending on those we can get at any particular time. In any case it will need to be trimmed, notched, and shaped to fit your particular instrument; there is no such thing as an exact replacement, as basses differ from one another. Due to availability, the ebony may be a shade of dark brown rather than pure black. The nut is the piece of wood at the top of the fingerboard over which the strings travel to the pegbox.
