Powered by a 9 volt battery or externally supplied phantom power. (battery not included)
This 1-channel all-purpose preamp (magnetic/piezo) is an upgraded, slightly larger version of the Pure Preamp. It adds a phase switch and a balanced XLR output along with the ¼" line output (which you can use for a tuner or for stage monitoring). You can power the unit with phantom power through the XLR output, and its powerful EQ section and gain controls are all externally accessible.
K&K Sound preamps are full-range, and suitable for use with any pickup - due to their 1 megohm input impedance, they are ideal for piezo-based and magnetic pickups. Yep, I've been known to use my personal Pure Preamp with my old '71 Fender Precision fretless bass, which lets me get that "active" sound without making nasty new holes in that sweet old bass.
- Frequency range 30 - 30,000 Hz
- Input Impedance: 1 Mega Ohm
- Output Impedance: 100 Ohm (both outputs)
- Dimensions: 4.9" x 3.6" x 1.3"
- EQ: 3 band, +/- 20db
- Bass: 100Hz
- Mid: 1.5kHz
- Treble: 10kHz
- Phase Switch: Invert phase on/off
- Outputs: XLR (12-48v phantom-power capable) and 1/4" line out

David Gage Realist Pickup for Double Bass (Original and Wood Version)
The David Gage Realist pickup is a very popular choice, used by a number of top bassists for many years. It particularly excels on basses with resonant carved tops. It's well-known for its full, woody tone; it doesn't have a lot of high end response, due to it being against the bass top. Depending on your needs, this may be a very good thing. It's available in the newer "Woodtone" as well as the original "Copperhead" versions. INCLUDES FREE BONUS - Gollihur Jack Mount Kit...
Fishman BP-100 Upright Bass Pickup
Back when dark and tubby bass ruled the world, along came the BP-100 from Fishman. While not perfect for every player (if such a pickup existed, it would be the only one I carried) it opened our eyes to what bass could sound like: clear, full-bodied... not wimpy! The key to getting great sound with the BP-100 is using it with a buffering preamp, so I strongly recommend you have or get one; but it's very easy to install, and can be on and off the bass in a minute or so with no tools.

Thanks for the good advice you provide on preamps, and thanks for the quick service on the K&K, which arrived in time for three weekend gigs. The preamp makes a world of difference, even with my older Fishman BP 100 pickups, which are positioned under the bridge feet. I'm able to get a much warmer and controllable sound than I could by going through an external EQ. For the time being, at least, I'm off the hook for investing in a better pickup, and when I do decide on one, I'm sure the K&K will still make a big difference. Thanks again, Jene
