EA has pushed amplifier technology to the upper limit with the introduction of their outstanding iAmp800, the flagship of their amplifier line. The preamp section is of the tried and proven classic EA design found in the sister EA products, but that is where the traditional technology ends. The power amplifier stage is a brand new Class D digital design that will faithfully reproduce any audio signal presented at the input stage. Their unique design overcomes the poor frequency and transient response which older technology Class D amplifiers had a reputation for.

Their new design uses the latest semiconductor and switching technology to deliver massive amounts of current to the loudspeaker while keeping tight control over speaker cone response. The result is an 800 watt signal into a 4 ohm speaker that is simply stunning - this amp has power in reserve, and crisp, clean, ACCURATE sound. Since this amp is 85% power efficient, there is no need for a cooling fan. Plus, power supply size and weight have been reduced accordingly while not sacrificing performance. The result is a high performance, full featured, small footprint rackmountable amp head that weighs under 20 pounds that is comfortable powering speakers in a concert level environment.

If you wish, you can hook a 2 ohm load to the output and extract 1000 watts. The amp circuitry is fully protected and incorporates an onboard limiter which will activate when the amp is driven into clipping no matter what speaker load you are driving. The iAmp800 may be the only amp you will ever need.

Control Panel Details:
This is the control panel for the iAMP 800 (the iAMP 500 and iAMP 200 preamp (used in the Wizzy Combo) both have the same control panel but without the second effects loop on the right side. The iAMP 800 also has an LED level meter alongside the input jacks. I've annotated the illustration with the control panel markings, which I explain below.

The center EQ section may look a little complicated, but it is pretty intuitive once you understand its concepts and interactively wrap your ears around its effects. The Deep and Contour II presets are favorites of mine, and Contour I and Bright are very nice as well. The four part section section has controls for Bass, Low-Midrange, High Midrange, and High, with a range -15db to +15db. The slider beneath each lets you select the semi-parametric center frequency that the knob affects, so you can very precisely choose and affect favorite frequency bands to dial in your sound - or dial out problem frequencies when on a "stage from hell" that might be causing "boominess" or "honking." The two midrange bands allow you to select the width ("Q") of the band of frequencies to affect, either 1/2 or 1 full octave.

As an example-- getting too much finger noise from your double bass sound?? Move the High Mid slider to 1kZ, and use the dial above to subtract some of that noise! Knowing the "magic" frequencies helps, but the bottom line is: you can easily use your ears to make these adjustments. The EQ section can be switched in and out, which is very helpful if you are switching between two basses, and one needs more sound tailoring than the other.

The rest of the features are pretty self-explanatory, and of course for optional use, but please email me if you have any questions. I have been regularly gigging with an iAMP 800 for several years now!.

Here is what some of our customers think about this product:
Hi Bob, Just wanted to let you know that the EA rig arrived on Monday, just like you said it would. I took it out to band practice last night and it kicked some serious bass butt! The only downside, if you want to call it that, is that the tonal quality and accuracy is challenging me to play better. With my old Peavey amp, any old noise I made on the bass came out as an ill defined thump. Now the amp is replicating what I'm playing- good tone, clinkers and all. I actually had the experience in my living room of not thinking it was working because I only heard the same sound, a bit louder. When I cranked it, I heard the same sound, only LOUDER!

Needless to say I'm thrilled and in one day I lost forty pounds of ugly amp! (the difference in weight between the Peavey and the EA) Of course, it fits in the car better, and for short trips from the car to the house, I can pick up the bass with one hand and the amp in the other- of course I AM a manly man!

About EA- I had a couple of questions about setting up the amp controls and emailed EA- even though it was like 8:30 or so, I got a reply from Larry in a half an hour- I fully expected that reply to come sometime during the next business day.

So, let's see- I bought a K&K bass max, a bridge and this amp from you, and I've been thrilled with each purchase. Thanks, Bob, for your unswerving support of the low down community.
John
Bob & Mark,

Thanks to you both, my iamp 800 that I ordered Wednesday arrived in Missouri Friday afternoon.

Since my previous amp was an iamp350, I really expected no surprises in making the switch.

I was half right. The preamp & eq section is just what I expected it to be. The power amp was another thing altogether. Having that kind of headroom just made my old Kay come ALIVE. The punch & thickness of every note makes me glad I took the leap of faith and bought the big one. The stability at 2 ohm loads is a great thing. Everybody in the band was happy with this one.

Thanks for your generous advice on the phone and the great service.
